POKOTABI / Restaurant Mari
Restaurant Mari
A closer look at Restaurant Mari in Kanda Awajicho, serving thoughtful lunch fare from slow-simmered beef tendon and spiced minced-meat keema split-plate combos to tender chicken curry and classic Western-style omurice.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Along a street in Kanda Awajicho, where soft daylight filters in through the glass front, Restaurant Mari offers a welcoming spot for European-style curry and yoshoku classics. With its calm, cafe-like interior, diners can settle into table seating and enjoy an unhurried, comfortable meal.
Among the standout choices on the menu is the combination plate pairing beef tendon curry with keema curry on the same platter. The rich depth of melt-in-the-mouth beef tendon, simmered down slowly, contrasts with the spice-infused minced meat of the keema, each retaining its own distinct character while coming together neatly over rice. Breaking open the accompanying soft-boiled egg allows its creamy yolk to mellow the sharper spices, adding another layer of texture to each bite.
The chicken curry is another popular fixture, delivering a balanced spice warmth alongside tender pieces of poultry. From a mild creamy chicken curry to seasonal pork curry piled with fried vegetables, the menu also offers diners the flexibility to select spice levels and combinations to suit their tastes.
Alongside its curry repertoire, the shop also serves omurice reminiscent of an old-school Japanese Western-style diner. Wrapped in gently cooked yet fluffy egg, its comforting flavour can also be enjoyed in a lavish split order combined with beef tendon curry.
Service runs mainly during daytime hours, with select lunch sets accompanied by soup and a small side salad. Easy to visit on one's own and greeted with approachable hospitality, the dining room makes a comfortable stop for anyone seeking a hearty plate of curry before continuing the afternoon.
